August 2016 Achievements
Bill Baker, Professor of Biology, earned the 2016 Northeast Regional Faculty Member Award by the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT). He is one of five community college faculty members nationwide so recognized, and is to receive the award at the ACCT National Leadership Congress awards luncheon October 7 in New Orleans.
Kristopher Baker, PhD, Executive Director, Technology Innovation Center and Associate Professor, Biology, received one of four Carnegie Foundation Leadership Awards during the Carnegie Math Pathways 2016 National Forum on July 16 in San Francisco. He was honored for implementing the Quantway math course at RCC and spearheading its introduction in the SUNY system and nationally with NASH (National Association of System Heads) and IHEP (Institution for Higher Education Policy).
President Cliff L. Wood, EdD, is to receive the Special REDC Board Recognition Award at the Rockland Economic Development Council’s annual awards luncheon on November 18 at the Crowne Plaza in Suffern.
Eric Magaram, Assistant Professor and Chair of Mathematics along with Kristopher Baker, presented "New York State of Mind: Scaling and Spread of Quantway in SUNY" at the Carnegie Math Pathways 2016 National Forum July 14-17 in San Francisco.
Mara-Lee Bierman, Professor of Spanish and Chair of Foreign Languages, delivered a presentation titled “Beyond the Curriculum: Navigating Success, Awards and Rewards” at the national conference of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, July 7-11 in Miami, Florida.
David Lucander, PhD, Associate Professor of Multicultural Studies, gave a keynote address in July at the Thurgood Marshall YMCA in Washington, DC, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the WWII era march on Washington.
Matthew Matcovich and Kristen Kolka, Instructors of Mathematics, along with Asst. Professor Eric Magaram, presented at the SUNY/Carnegie Foundation Pathways Spring forum June 3-5 in Saratoga, NY.
Eileen MacAvery Kane, Instructor of Art, is exhibiting from July through October at the Summer 2016 Storm King Tavern Exhibition in Cornwall, NY.
Ruben Merino was chosen Student Worker of the Year by Career Services for his work in Financial Aid. He was awarded a certificate of recognition and a professional gift bag.
The Women’s Basketball team posted a cumulative 3.45 GPA to finish 10th among all divisions of junior college athletics in the NJCAA Academic Team of the Year Award competition. Members of the team included Alexis Aguirre, Kara Burkhart, Mary Kendall, Isabella Korchnoy, Ambar Mendez, Olivia Neretich, Jessica Neugebauer, and Anna Olson.
