July 2014 Achievements

Faculty Achievements

Michael Francesco, adjunct, Science, was published in The Journal of Urban History (May, 2014, Vol. 40.3). His article, “Peruvians in Paterson: The Growth and Establishment of a Peruvian American Community within the Multiethnic Immigrant History of Paterson, New Jersey,” offers details of his research on the unique history and traditions of the Peruvian-American community in Paterson.

Parbati (Pam) Bhattacharya, CPA, adjunct, Accounting, received certification designation as a Chartered Global Management Accountant by the CGMA institute (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants) on July 14, 2014.

Student Achievements

The following students successfully completed 5 weeks of research at Purchase College participating in either the Bridges to the Baccalaureate or Baccalaureate and Beyond Programs. They presented their work at the annual Student Research Symposium:

Ayobami Adebayo and Corrina Little: “The evolution of Phenotypic Plasticity to elevated Carbon Dioxide: Insights from the Model Plant Arabidopsis thaliana.”

Naderge Guerin and Marquel Hendricks: “How Belonging Needs Affect Social Perception.”

Sabine Jocelyn: “Antimicrobial Peptides and Anisotropy.”

Angel M. Jimenez-Mora: “Are You Who You Think You Are? Memory and Identity Formation.” Adebayo was also selected to present his findings at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) November 12-15, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas.
