January 2010 Achievements
Faculty & Staff Achievements
Collette Fournier, adjunct faculty, Art, and Educational Support Specialist, will be exhibiting photography at the Upstream Gallery in Dobbs Ferry as well as the Calumet Gallery in New York City. Upstream Gallery: Feb. 4 - 28 (reception: Sun., Feb. 7, 2– 5 p.m., "Photography Takes Over 2010," www.upstreamgallery.com). Calumet Gallery: Feb. 1 – 20 (reception: Friday, Feb. 5, 6 – 9 p.m., "Kamoinge: In the Moment"). She was also nominated for the NAACP award. She will be honored for her service to the NAACP ACT-SO Program at the Nyack NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner (Apr. 8, Pearl River Hilton).
RCC's ROSE Recycling Program has saved the College approximately $3,252 in 2009. To date, from the start of the program in 2005, the College has saved almost $22,000 by redistributing supplies. The ROSE Recycling Program is coordinated by Lorinda Hill, Assistant to the Director of Plant Facilities.
Brian Merritt, Director of the Haverstraw Center, has been accepted into the Doctoral Program in Administration in Community Colleges for the Spring 2010 semester at the University of Maryland.
James Salvadon '90, Instructor, Mathematics, successfully completed the Quality Matters (QM) official Peer Review national certification program from the University of Maryland, becoming RCC's first QM online courses official. Quality Matters is a faculty-centered, peer review process designed to certify the quality of online courses and online components. As a QM official, this certificate will enable Salvadon to evaluate and certify online courses or write a commendation for course improvement or correction if the course does not meet the National standards.
At the Pinning Ceremony for the December '09 graduates of the Nursing Program (Jan.5), six of the 46 graduates were recognized for outstanding achievements:

Students Mark Svensson and Tarik Abdelqader, Co-Chairmen of the College's Anti-Slavery Committee, delivered a presentation to the Rockland County Legislature on the issue of Modern Day Slavery (Jan. 26).
