Recycling at RCC
RCC HAS AN AWARD WINNING RECYCLING PROGRAM
coordinated by Lorinda Hill, Assistant to the Director of Plant Facilities
We had an amazing third quarter of 2010, recycling lots of paper, containers, and wood - 16.88 tons to be specific. That equates to an avoided disposal cost of about $1,282.00 and a diversion rate of 49% !!!!!! (Diversion rate is the percentage of the total material disposed of that was recycled not landfilled).
The specific are as follows: Paper recycled: 9.14 tons
Wood : 4.63 tons
If we remove the wood from the total because that's not a common occurrence, that leaves 12.25 tons and a diversion rate of 41%. The containers (plastic, metal, and glass) represent a full quarter of the total recycled. Our amazing success is a direct result of everyone's careful consideration of where they throw stuff.
