RCC High School Program

Approved by the Board of Trustees of Rockland Community College on April 23, 2009.

RCC High School Program

Rockland Community College is one of the campuses of the State University of New York that has college credit programs for high school students to increase access to college level learning. The Rockland Community College High School Program (RCCHSP) is one of two options for high school students.

RCCHSP is open to high school juniors and seniors who wish to register part-time and take classes either in their high school or on campus. Students who have not completed their sophomore year may take courses under special circumstances after a satisfactory personal interview with the appropriate SUNY Rockland Division Chair.

RCCHSP Guidelines

  1. All students enrolling in RCCHSP will be part-time, non-matriculated students.
  2. High school seniors are limited to 11 credits per semester.
  3. Students other than high school seniors generally may take one course per semester.
  4. Students may take courses at their high school or on campus. On campus includes course offered on the RCC Main Campus and at the Haverstraw and Spring Valley Extension Sites.
  5. All students enrolling in RCCHSP must take the English assessment test and place into ENG 095 or higher, except for students seeking to enroll in Studio Art, Physical Education (PED) courses or Math courses. Students who have completed 16 college credits in this program will be required to adhere to the college’s English assessment and placement policy if they have not already done so.
  6. All students seeking to register for Math courses must take the Math assessment test and place appropriately in the course(s) for which they wish to register.
  7. All students must meet prerequisites for all courses.
  8. RCCHSP students may not register for developmental (credit equivalent) courses that are offered on SUNY Rockland’s main campus or at the extension sites in Spring Valley or Haverstraw.
  9. All students enrolled in RCCHSP are required to adhere to the policies of the College.
  10. Faculty members teaching at the high school will be required to attend semi-annual meetings on the RCC campus to enhance open communication, academic and program standards, and professional development.
  11. Classroom observations will take place at least once per semester.
