Intermediate Algebra

Course Description

Intermediate Algebra course takes a student with the skills from Math 101and further develops concepts in linear equations, linear systems and polynomials. New topics include compund linear inequalities, absolute value problems, writing equations of a line, third order systems of linear equations and problem solving, synthetic division, rational expressions, roots and radicals, radical & quadratic equations, completing the square and the quadratic formula.

 

Prerequisite: Math 101 Basic Algebra or higher on placement exam

 

Required Materials

The textbook will be Intermediate Algebra by Aufman Barker Lockwood, Fifth edition. It is your responsibility to do your homework on a timely basis and to submit any assignments and to take examinations on time and in a neat legible and orderly fashion. Mathematics is a language and as such a set of rules equivalent to punctuation, grammar and spelling in an English writing class. You are expected to adhere to these rules in writing your work and solutions.

 

Learning Objectives

Students should take this course to build a foundation for their academic success in higher level mathematics courses. The goal is to prepare students with the skills necessary to continue in mathematics with Mat109 Precalculus.  Consult your degree sheet for the proper information for your major and further requirements in Mathematics.

 

Grading

Our grading policy will be 5 exams each 20% of the final grade. In order to receive a grade of C or higher you must also pass 4 out of 5 exams with a grade of 70 or above.

There is NO FINAL. There are NO MAKEUP exams without valid medical or court documentation.

NO EXCEPTIONS! Be responsible for yourself and discuss any difficulties with me prior examinations.Grading will be assigned based on the following averages:
