Calculus I
Course Description
All students should have completed an MAT 109 Pre-Calculus satisfactorily - C or better! While the placement exam states 101 or higher good working knowledge of factoring, linear equations, rational expressions, domain and range, radicals and radical equations, exponential and logarithmic functions, trigonomentic functions, trigonometric identities, trigonometric equations and inverse trigonometric functions. Review this material and be prepared. If you are deficient in any of these areas plese see me immediately during the first week of the given term.
Prerequisite: Math 109 Pre-Calculus
Required Materials
The text for our course will be Calculus by Larson, Hostetler Edwards Seventh Edition.
Learning Objectives
Students who take this course will become introduced to the basic concepts of Calculus including limits, continuity, derivatives, differentiation of algebraic and trigonometric functions, implicit differentiation, applications of differentiation, abolute and relative extrema, Rolles theorem, the mean value theorem, diffferentials, newtons method, and basic indefinite integrals. Regular use of scientific and graphic calculators will be included throughout the semester.
Grading
Our grading policy will be 3 exams each 20% and a Cumulative Final Exam 40% of the final grade. The LOWEST GRADE WILL NOT BE DROPPED. There will be NO MAKE UP exams unless a doctors note or court documentation is shown. No Exceptions!
