Basic Algebra with Reinforcement

Course Description

This is an introductory tour of basic algebra. Topics include arithmetic operations with signed numbers, linear equations and inequalities, graphing equations of lines, finding solutions to systems of linear equations, exponents and operations with polynomials, factoring polynomials, roots and radicals.

 

Prerequisite: Successful Completion of CSK065

 

Required Materials

The textbook will be using is Beginning Algebra by Charles P. McKeague, sixth edition. It is your responsibility to do your homework on a timely basis and to submit any assignments and to take examinations on time in a neat legible and orderly fashion. Mathematics is a language and as such a set of rules equivalent to punctuation, grammar and spelling in an English writing class. You are expected to adhere to these rules in writing your work and solutions.

 

Learning Objectives

Students should take this course to build a foundation for their academic success. To prepare students with the skills necessary to continue with Mat102 Intermediate Algebra , or Statistics Mat125. Mat101 does not readily transfer to other institutions although it does satisfy most degree requirements here at RCC. Consult your degree sheet for the proper information for your major.

 

Grading

Our grading policy will be 6 exams each 16.67% of the final grade. In order to receive a grade of C or higher you must also pass 4 out of 6 exams with a grade of 70 or above.

There is NO FINAL. There are NO MAKEUP exams without valid medical or court documentation.

NO EXCEPTIONS! Be responsible for yourself and discuss any difficulties with me prior examinations.Grading will be assigned based on the following averages:
