English Composition I Honors

Course Description

ENG 101H is a required honors level writing course which teaches the honors student to write and argue clearly, think logically, and to discuss perceptively.  The student will hone his/her critical reading and analytic skills and apply them to writing essays based on selected readings.  The course involves the study of the forms of rhetoric and the consideration of
the use of those forms by some of the greatest essay writers in western culture.

 

Prerequisite: None

Co-requisite: None

 

Required Materials

A World of Ideas: Essential Readings for College Writers

 

Grading

The standards for grading are those delineated in the English Department "Green Sheet" 

 

NOTE: All due dates are FIRM.  Exceptions will obtain only where there are serious, documentable problems.  All late submissions will be penalized one full grade per day late.

 

Course Policies:

While it is understood that sometimes absences occur of necessity, excessive unexplained absence will result in lowering of grade or failure.
